Deep Sea Conservation Festival

Dive into action on August 25th at Seattle’s very own Deep Sea Conservation Festival!

Join us on August 25th from 10am-5pm at the UW Fisheries Science Building to celebrate and learn about the biggest and least understood ecosystem on the planet! Featuring booths, speakers, crafts, live music, food, and much more, this festival will be a free event for anyone in the community.

Everyone, regardless of age, background, and expertise, is invited to explore the complexity of the deep sea, the intersection between a healthy ocean and a healthy community, and solutions to current threats to this vibrant ecosystem.

Working with local and global partners such as the Sustainable Ocean Alliance, Seattle Aquarium, and Marine Conservation Institute, the goal of this event is to swirl together education, inspiration, and action to preserve the deep sea.

Best fishes, and we’ll “sea” you there!

A Video on the deep ocean

John Oliver, the “Last Week Tonight” host, discusses the deep ocean and how companies are viewing it more for its mining potential rather than as a fragile ecosystem. In this 20 minute breakdown, learn more about deep sea mining and the threat it poses.
